Happy Mother’s Day to all moms out there (and some single dads as well)! Okay fine, the picture I used isn’t really a mom. If I’m not mistaken, it’s a tranny yaya. I took this when we went on that river tour in Bangkok. But since I’m not greeting you Happy Tranny Yaya Day, let’s just pretend she’s a real woman and that the cute child she’s carrying is her daughter. In our family alone, we have so many mothers — my mom the matriarch, my 2 sisters, my sister-in-law, and my nieces-in-law. Not to mention my friends and officemates, etc.
It’s a unique Mother’s Day celebration, because hanging over our heads is a possible turning point in our nation’s history (hopefully for the better), as the very next day we troop to the polls to elect a hopefully better batch of leaders. So although I greet all human mothers out there, I make a special greeting to our Inang Bayan whose future hangs in the balance, depending who wins tomorrow’s elections. I don’t pretend I know who the best choices are (I have opinions, but I’ve been wrong before), but there’s always the hope eternal that we have better days ahead.
So to our Motherland, Happy Mother’s Day! I truly hope we, your pasaway kids, will have enough sense to elect the right leaders tomorrow. Because in the end, we deserve the leaders we elect.
