When Mothers Day rolled along, everyone was scrambling to find the right gift for their moms. We were tasked to do something quite difficult to do, for men in general. If you’re thinking something in the vein of singing a song for her in front of an audience, or buying her expensive jewelry worth a couple of months’ salaries, not quite. Not as big and showy as those, but every bit as challenging. To say those three words all moms want to hear. Not “I Love You”, which I’m sure they’d love to hear every bit as much, but something they hear less frequently — “You Were Right”. It may seem deceptively simple, but when faced with the idea that you will actually say these words to your mom, it reduces most men to spineless jelly. We read a lot of our listeners messages for their moms, and for a few, we actually put them on air to do it live, including Gino and I. Suffice it to say we sweat bullets even just anticipating the inevitable. But after the struggle, we felt infinitely relieved and enriched for doing so. Challenging, but infinitely rewarding.
