This is the sight we woke up to…AGAIN. But we weren’t really worried, because yesterday it was the same thing, rainy in the morning, then okay by lunchtime. So we thought, flight to Bangkok? No problemo!
Then, we had breakfast, packed, checked out and headed to the airport. Then we were greeted by this sign:

Unfortunately, the monsoon wasn’t getting any weaker. The rains have even doubled as the hours passed. 1 hour became 2 hours became 3 hours…and, as I type this, counting. The rains are pounding Koh Samui with such fury it’s scary. Lots of water, lashing winds, and conditions no plane should be flying in.

A complete nightmare. The upside? Seriously, I think the Koh Samui airport is probably the BEST airport to be stranded in. The boarding area feels like a resort lobby. There’s free wifi (which I’m using to post this), unlimited pastries and coffee, and the best airport toilet ever (complete with aquarium and automatic sliding doors)! The toilet alone would shame the best hotels. Plus, we got there early, so we were able to get a sofa with pillows that we could actually sleep on. So I’ve been whiling my time tweeting and facebooking (I still can’t over the fact that “to facebook” is now a generally accepted verb). I don’t know how the cavemen during the stone age survived during storms without laptops. Siguro na-”bato” sila (hwehwe).

So what could’ve been a total tragedy, was somehow softened a bit with some positive sides to the situation. It could have been infinitely worse. I refuse to be a negatron about this; I shall remain an optimist prime! One by one, they’re starting to announce flights being canceled. So far…ours is still on. Of course it’s driving us nuts with suspense. We collectively jump everytime the P.A. system goes off for announcements. We still don’t know if the flight is on or canceled. We’re waiting with bated breaths.
I don’t want to even think it, but if ever, we’re staying put in the boarding area. We’ll spend the night here on our little sofa if we have to. We’ll call it “home” for the night. Anyway we have the 2 basics for human survival: toilet with bidet and free wifi. Bangkok Airways is the bomb. They’re really taking care of us, they’re delivering food for us to eat. We really feel taken cared of. So this is it for now, my trusty laptop is running low on battery, and the queue for the outlets are pretty long. It’ll have to be a cliffhanger for us now, it’s been 7 hours since our stranding. We could either be stranded for the night, or we could be in trannilicious Bangkok by tonight. Which one will fate hand us? Abangan ang susunod na kabanata…
