It’s that time of year again, when Delle turns another year, and she has to deal with a relatively new way of dealing with her birthday, which is being fawned over by so many well-wishers, pretty much an alien concept to her most of her life. But she’s getting much better at it, and I must say, this year is one for the books. We had our annual salubong for her birthday (I don’t even remember how many years we’ve been doing this), and this one did NOT disappoint. There were the requisite laughter, with its attendant tears, lots of good company, tons of communion between the best of friends, and a good reminder of why we’ve been friends for so long, and why we probably will remain so for the years to come. So suffice it to say, most everyone got smashed. Of course I didn’t, because I don’t drink anymore, but the late night wasn’t any easier on me. We wrapped up way beyond 2am, and by the time I got home and fixed up for bed, it was around 3am. Of course I was expected to wake up at 5am, a mere 2 hours after. When the alarm rang, I think I literally cried. It was so hard to peel myself from the bed because I was so tired, so sleepy, so drained of all energy. But I got up, as I always do for the past 20 years, and dragged my butt to work. Apparently Delle was in much worse condition. Aside from the late night, she’d had a lot of potent libation, and so it was doubly difficult for her to get up, accounting for the late start we had this morning.
But from thereon, it was pretty much uphill from there. If left to our own devices, we’d both probably choose a dark corner each, crawl up into a fetal ball, and forget the world existed for a couple of hours. But because of all the positive energy from our listeners, we really do get energized and it worked way better than caffeine. All the egging on and all the baiting, got us worked up, and before we knew it, we’ve disengaged our edit buttons and were spewing thoughts we’d normally rein in tighter. But I must admit, it was loads of fun. A lot of people dropped by, while some sent gifts, and the plot thickened deliciously when Delle’s “special someone” dropped by with balloons and flowers and donuts and hugs and kisses…okay…for my own safety, I believe I will stop now. Then , one thing led to another, and for the first time ever, Mr. _____ spoke on air! It was a first for us! We’ve never had a person one of us was involved with, talk on air. Anyway, I was so tickled that I even used it as today’s recap. If you want to hear the voice of Mr. _____, download the podcast of today’s episode on Blue Ritz’s site, http://www.cdtop10.blogspot.com. Hahaha, peace Delle!
Anyway, we’ve come a long way, and the evolution continues. I wish Delle happiness, in whatever form that comes in — be it romance, career success, family life, friends, peace of mind, etc., and I wish her all manners of love, in all shapes and sizes. Not just the love that jumps up and down for joy, but even the quiet love, that one that is happy to sit still, but just as bursting with blissful enchantment as its manic counterpart. I do believe we all get what we deserve. And if that’s the case, then I’m pretty sure Delle will be in for glorious days ahead.
