Wow, it’s been 14 years ago, at my father’s wake, when our bosses broached the idea that, what if, the two of us came up with a show together. Not as jock-newscaster, but as partners. My father just died and Delle was about to resign, so we were at junctions in our lives where we had nothing to lose. 14 years later, we’re still here, and hopefully with many more years ahead of us. Earlier, Asnallar sent in a text that if we had a child when we started the show, that kid would already be in high school. It honestly doesn’t feel THAT long, but put in that way, yikes, that’s a pretty long time.
This anniversary though is a bittersweet one, because at around 3am earlier today, we got a text that a very dear friend, one of our barkada, lost her battle with cervical cancer and passed away. It’s very sobering, quite difficult to do a show, especially a supposedly joyous anniversary episode, and yet grieve at the same time. But I guess that’s the theme that got us through for 14 years so far. Through problems and heartbreaks and deaths and controversy, we forged on, no matter how difficult our personal lives may be, we went to work and delivered what is expected of us. No matter how much our little heart were breaking, we woke up, got ready, and did what we had to do. So today, for us, it’s a time for celebration and a time for bereavement. Death always remind us of how short life actually is, how frail our hold is on everything in this life, but knowing that, also makes our gratitude richer and deeper for those that we still have, for the things we have still been blessed with. And one of those things, is The Morning Rush. In the same vein that we “have to” be at work even during the times when we don’t want to, it also becomes our anchor, something constant in our lives that reminds us that things move on with or without our consent. Many times, the insanity of the show helped us keep our sanity. So to all of us, Happy Anniversary! Sorry if the jubilation is qualified, but like I said, the bad times magnify the joy and loss magnifies the blessings. Tomorrow we start a new year!
