Globe hosted a weekly portion on The Morning Rush that lasted for 4 weeks, where we guested a celebrity and grilled them, in connection with the company’s “no secret is safe” campaign. It was very interesting, with very mixed results, and it was a portion we awaited with much excitement, but also mixed with a bit of dread.
Rich Herrera
So many girls (biological and honorary) went a-swooning when Rich visited us, with his radio-ready booming voice matched with laid-back coolness. What I would pay to have a voice like that! He’s a ladies man and a guy’s guy, the type women would want and men would want to be. When he answered most questions with responses that seem too safe or too politically correct, you don’t suspect him of being showbiz, you actually believe him! He’s half American, but he strikes me more as Australian, with his rugged outback cowboy vibe. Strangely, at least for a model, he looks much better in person than he does in photos or on screen. Even Rico Robles described him as very Marky Mark-looking. The impression I walked away with the most was that he was really a genuinely nice guy. Like he said, he wasn’t the type to say something evil behind someone else’s back nor the type to try and steal another guy’s girl. That’s modern-day chivalry for you.
Rovilson Fernandez
Hands down, one of the BEST interviewees we’ve ever grilled. He’s a dream subject for an interview because he’s funny, smart, very opinionated, and had just the right amount of maldito to make for a delirious conversation. The amount of texts and tweets we received clamoring for more was overwhelming. Some celebs who see themselves as “witty” end up more cheeky, sometimes borderline rude. But Rovilson had just the right amount of sass, without becoming offensive. He doesn’t back down from any repartee, but he’s keen enough to know his limits. Philippine showbiz should have more this brand of celeb because heaven knows we could use more of this type of entertainment. He’s the kind of guy who’d be a hoot to hang out with, the type you’d love to have in your barkada. Until now I get texts from friends about how fun the interview was. I do hope we get to work with Rovilson again sometime in the future.
Phoemela Barranda
Phoemela was literally breathless when we interviewed her because she arrived at 10am, when we were supposed to have the interview at 9am. So I guess the adrenalin got her really pumped up, but we really wouldn’t have it any other way because she was a bundle of energy that day! She jumped into each question with such fervor, making her for sure, the celeb who was the most candid about answering our questions. The other celebs were obviously editing how they would attack the questions, but not Phoem, she just dived in without really censoring herself. She was fun to interview because of her candor, and she never backed away from any question, no matter how titillating. And like Rich, Phoemela was much more good-looking in person than in pictures or on screen. I knew she was pretty, but I didn’t expect that she was THAT pretty. Even the photo above, doesn’t do her any justice. She’s a stunning woman, I must say.
Isabel Abierra Collins
Isabel is one of the 4 new female hosts of Wowowee, and also is part of the cast of the soap Rosalka. We thought she was one of those Brazilian girls who populate the local modeling and showbiz industries, but it turns out she’s half-Pinay, half-American. She’s a pretty young lady, very new to the business, so you get a really young, fresh vibe about her, not yet as savvy as the other more experienced celebs. She strikes me as very open and still very excited to experience the world, still untainted by the things that turn many celebs into jaded creatures. I had to be a little easier on her on account of her youth. I couldn’t really grill her the way I did the other celebs because she was a young lady and it wouldn’t have been proper. But this girl has a lot of promise. I haven’t seen her work yet, but she’s pretty, she’s smart, and she looks like she has that hunger to go after her goals. She could be a new talent to watch for this year.
