Last Saturday, after we babysat our Radio 1 buddies, I went straight to a one-day class in studio lighting. Although I don’t really see myself getting into studio photography, I just felt that it wouldn’t hurt to learn about light, how it behaves, and how it affects my pictures. There were just 7 of us in the class, so it had a very intimate feel. Plus, we got to learn how to meter light, how to set up studio lights, and even how to shoot live models (not that I’ve shot dead ones…)! I guess the main thing we all had to overcome was the shyness we had when it came to directing the models. We felt kinda iffy telling them to turn this way and that, to move the hand up or down (I even blushed telling one model go down on her knees!). It just felt a little too bossy to be telling models how to pose. Plus, sometimes, you want her to do a pose that you can’t really describe using words. Sometimes you have to actually act out the pose yourself so they know what you’re talking about. So there you are, looking like a fool, re-enacting a fierce model pose, but ending up looking like Tyra on crack. But I must say, my friends and I, now want to try renting out a studio and some models to practice our newfound skills in lighting. I also want to try shooting portraits of my friends in the studio. Hmmm…maybe a semi-nude photoshoot starring Delle wearing only dried starfish to cover her naughty bits….
Here are some of the shots…

I just wish I had a longer lens so I could do tighter shots of the models. Uh-oh…do I smell another lens purchase? A Nikon 18-200mm, perhaps…?
