Someone showed me a picture he took while he was vacationing in Puerto Galera. It was really disturbing because shark populations are dwindling worldwide, no matter what the breed. And like Yamyam in her comment sent in one of my earlier posts, I have heard of that thresher shark found in a Batangas market, slaughtered for the fins and the meat. And given my recent trip to Malapascua, where divers are saying it’s getting harder to spot them, it’s heartbreaking to think that the sharks caught in Batangas could be the very ones we were trying to spot in Malapascua. But whatever the case, let your voice be heard. In case you see restaurants selling shark meat or pet shops selling baby sharks of whatever species, tell them how you feel about it. Not to be combative or anything, but to simply state the fact that you’d really appreciate it if they stopped selling them because of the very real danger of losing them forever. Now whether say actually do something about it or simply laugh in your face is their problem. At least on your part, you did what you could, in whatever capacity to correct this injustice.
This all reminds me of a campaign by the Asian Conservation Awareness Program where different celebrities lent their voices to this worthy cause. Their mantra says it all: “When The Buying Stops, The Killing Can Too”.

people gotta do what they can to survive. but please, try to look for other alternative. these species are going to extinct sooner. *sigh
some people are just so selfish… =(
really disturbing. we really need to put an end to this.
maybe you could do this sa Top Ten – saving moments (people, animals, etc).
hi chico can you do a top ten to complete the phrase a blank a day keeps the doctor away..
P150 for shark steak? I don’t know but for something endangered isn’t that a bit too cheap? Unless the portions are really really small.
Either way it’s not just preventing people from buying. It’s also stopping the people from throwing their garbage around the oceans and beaches right!
I loved those “When the buying stops, the killing can too” campaign.
Peace.
a part of me is saying “at least they’re not selling dolphin or whale steaks,” simply because i am sooo afraid of sharks… but it’s still wrong.
the things people do to earn money…
for an endangered creature, 150 might be too cheap, but to these people selling this it’s a lot of money. it’s just so sad that they had to resort into murdering creatures that balance the circle of life.
“When the buying stops, the killing can too” – i’m reminded of a story back there. kalakasan pa ng “GSM” (Galing Sa Magnanakaw)cellphones. i came across someone who sells cheap high ends cellphones then. a dear friend asked me to ask the guy if he has this certain model. she is intersted in buying. i told the guy about it and ask if it is available. his reply: “kahit naman hindi eh, eh di ipagnanakaw sya!” i told my dear friend about his reply. my friend’s reaction: “ay naku! parang ako na rin ang nagsabing ipagnakaw nya ako! hindi bale na lang! makakatipid nga ako, may naagrabiyado naman ako.”
we have the responsibility to ensure the continuation of life. we are the ones with the thinking mind and soul…which supposed to be the kind one. we have to strike a balance.
awww chico thanks for reading my comment.. even if sharks are known for their fierce nature in the ocean, it’s still not right.. hayy.. hope this would catch the attention of our senators and congressmen..
